Comment 1 Vitor de Lima 2014-10-20 18:15:19 UTC
This feature is blocked in the osinfo, if you change the line:

os.other_ppc64.devices.network.hotplugSupport.value.3.5 = false

to true, it will enable NIC hot(un)plugging.

Is enabling it enough for it to work or are there other problems blocking hotplug support?

Comment 2 Michael Burman 2014-10-21 06:24:19 UTC
Hi Vitor,

I changed the line in:
vi /etc/ovirt-engine/osinfo.conf.d/00-defaults.properties -
os.other_ppc64.devices.network.hotplugSupport.value.3.4 = true

and then restarted engine.

It enabled the hotplug/unplug support and it worked.

- But why this feature is disabled by default?

Comment 3 Vitor de Lima 2014-10-21 19:48:47 UTC
It was not supported when the original oVirt ppc64 port was designed.

Comment 4 Michael Burman 2014-10-22 06:41:46 UTC
This feature is going to be enabled by default?

Comment 5 Michal Skrivanek 2014-10-22 11:23:10 UTC
yes

Comment 7 Michael Burman 2014-10-27 09:21:57 UTC
Hi Vitor,

If i'm adding new NIC to running vm, it should be added when it's plugged, right?
Because now, when i'm adding new NIC to vm, it's added when it's unplugged.
Is it should be a part of the fix too? or it's another bug?

Best regards,

Comment 8 Michael Burman 2014-10-27 09:30:43 UTC
Just to be clear about this-
The NIC added when it's unplugged to vm by default. and there is no way to change that.

Comment 9 Vitor de Lima 2014-10-27 11:20:17 UTC
This is another bug. Please open another bug with a detailed description.

Hotplug/unplug is not supported on rhel guest OS.

-The guest OS must have a very recent version of the powerpc-utils package (>=1.2.19)

Comment 12 Scott Herold 2014-10-29 03:14:42 UTC
Added known issue release note text

Comment 13 Dan Kenigsberg 2014-11-03 13:50:43 UTC
Changing component based on the patches solving this bug. Vitor, can you sent the changed-in-version and move to QA?

Comment 15 Michal Skrivanek 2014-11-12 15:12:34 UTC
do we have a RHEL child bug to include it? Or who's enforcing "-The guest OS must have a very recent version of the powerpc-utils package (>=1.2.19)" ?

Comment 16 Dan Kenigsberg 2014-11-12 22:01:34 UTC
el6.6 would have powerpc-utils>=1.2.20 https://brewweb.devel.redhat.com/buildinfo?buildID=355055

Comment 17 meital avital 2014-12-17 13:56:22 UTC
Verified on rhevm-3.4.5-0.1.el6ev.noarch
