Description of problem: The precompilation of JSP files is currently disabled in tomcat5. According to Bug 157205 this was changed in tomcat5-5.5.17-3jpp_3fc due to problems with libgcj-4.0.2-3. Disabling JSP precompilation effectively removed the HTTP-based "Tomcat Web Server Administration Tool", available through "http://localhost:8080/admin". Whatever problems existed in libgcj-4.0.2-3 seem to have been resolved in libgcj-4.1.2-46.el5 in RHEL 5.4, so it would seem that JSP precompilation can be re-enabled now. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): tomcat5-5.5.23-0jpp.7.el5_3.2 How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install tomcat5 and tomcat5-admin-webapps 2. Run "service tomcat5 start" 3. Point a Web browser at http://<host-name>:8080/admin Actual results: HTTP Status 404 - /admin/ type Status report message /admin/ description The requested resource (/admin/) is not available. Expected results: The login screen for the Tomcat Web Server Administration Tool should be displayed in the Web browser. Additional info: I was able to successfully build an s390x version of tomcat5-5.5.23-0jpp.7.el5_3.2 with JSP precompilation enabled for all architectures. Subsequent installation and testing of those packages on an s390x system showed that the Administration Tool was accessible.
Created attachment 403839 [details] Changes to specfile to re-enable JSP precompilation The following changes to the tomcat5 specfile should re-enable compilation on the ppc64 and s390x archs.
