Since RAW files cannot have a backing file, gluster could not be used as the destination for an external snapshot. The workaround was to use a FUSE mount, which resulted in slower performance. New code has been added to link libvirt with libgfapi, and enhanced XML now allows the use of QCOW2 images on gluster as a snapshot destination.
