Florian Müllner 2016-09-08 17:16:36 UTC Doc Text * Cause
It is no longer possible to have security updates installed automatically. While GNOME notifies the user when those updates are available, they may choose to ignore the notification and not install the updates.

* Consequence
Important security updates may not get installed.

* Fix
Offer a gnome-shell extension that enforces the installation of important security updates when installed and enabled.

* Result
When security updates are available, a dialog advises the user that updates will be applied and they need to save their work. After two minutes, the system will reboot to install the pending updates.

Important security updates now installed automatically

Previously, it was not possible to have security updates installed automatically. Even though GNOME notified the users about the available updates, they could choose to ignore the notification and not install the update. As a consequence, important updates could be left uninstalled. A gnome-shell extension is now available to enforce the installation of important updates. As a result, when new updates are available, a dialog window notifies the user that updates will be applied and they need to save their work. After two minutes, the system reboots to install the pending updates.
