Ian Kent 2017-03-28 06:42:09 UTC Doc Text Feature: Add support for the browse options (available automount points may be seen in the directory list of mounted automount managed mounts) of amd format maps.

Reason: Browse functionality is an important feature of default format automount maps. It is also an important feature of amd automounts but was initially not implemented.

Result: The browse functionality has now been implemented for Linux autofs amd format mounts.

What has been implemented:

1) The requirement that amd format mounts be added to the autofs master map has been removed, although they may still be present if desired.

It is now possible to add mount point sections to the autofs configuration (without the need to also add then to the master map) for amd format mounts in the same way automount points are configured in amd.

This avoids the need to have incompatible master map entries in the autofs master map within shared multi-vendor environments.

2) The "browsable_dirs" option may be used in either the autofs "[ amd ]" configuration section or following amd mount point sections.

3) The "browsable" and "utimeout" map entry options can be used in amd format map entry type "auto" map entries.

Note that the "browsable_dirs" option can be set to only "yes" or "no", the "full" setting can not be implemented in Linux autofs. Similarly for type "auto" amd format map entries the "fullybrowsable" option can not be supported.

*autofs* now supports the browse options of `amd` format maps

This update provides the browse functionality for Linux *autofs* `amd` format mounts. The browse functionality, previously available for default format automount maps, makes available automount points visible in the directory list of mounted automount-managed mount points.

You can now add mount point sections to the *autofs* configuration for `amd` format mounts in the same way automount points are configured in `amd`, without the need to also add the mount point sections to the master map. As a result, you can avoid having incompatible master map entries in the *autofs* master map within shared multi-vendor environments.

You can use the "browsable_dirs" option in either the *autofs* `[ amd ]` configuration section, or following `amd` mount point sections. You can use the "browsable" and "utimeout" map entry options in amd format map entry type "auto" map entries. Note that the "browsable_dirs" option can be set only to `yes` or `no`.
