Jakub Jelen 2017-02-24 14:46:52 UTC Doc Text Cause: There was race condition between systemd starting service and sshd writing PID file. Systemd depend on that file to keep proper track of that service.

Consequence: Systemd sometimes lost track of the service and tried to restart it endlessly.

Fix: SD_NOTIFY code was added into the sshd to help systemd track the running service.

Result: Systemd is able to track running service.

Doc Text Cause: There was race condition between systemd starting service and sshd writing PID file. Systemd depend on that file to keep proper track of that service.

Consequence: Systemd sometimes lost track of the service and tried to restart it endlessly.

Fix: SD_NOTIFY code was added into the sshd to help systemd track the running service.

Result: Systemd is able to track running service.
Previously, a race condition between systemd starting the OpenSSH server daemon and sshd writing a PID file could occur. As a consequence, systemd kept the sshd service restarting endlessly. With this update, the sd_notify() function has been added to the sshd code, and systemd is now able to properly detect already running sshd.service.
