The exact nature of why they were being corrupted could not be exactly determined, but it was likely to be due to the Cassandra process being prematurely killed due to the default 30 second shutdown timeout. Consequence: As a result of these corrupted commit logs, Cassandra would not be able to be restarted properly and some of the data contained within the commit logs would be lost. Fix: The default shutdown termination timeout has also been greatly increased to prevent Cassandra from being prematurely killed. The commit logs are being drained at shutdown so that they are not required to be processed at startup. The Cassandra instance has also been configured to continue if a commit log corruption is encountered. Result: The commit logs should no longer be getting corrupted preventing Cassandra from starting. | |
