Neha Ojha 2020-06-29 23:34:15 UTC Doc Text Cause: We consider the last known osd epoch when flooring the trim version for osdmaps.

Consequence: When an osd remains down for a long time, considering its epoch as the minimum version for osdmap trimming, leads to storing a large number of osdmaps. Accumulation of large number of osdmaps can result in using a lot of disk space.

Fix: Do not consider down osds, when determining minimum trim version.

Result: No accumulation of osdmaps and wastage of disk space.

.Disk space usage does not increase when OSDs are down for a long time

Previously, when an OSD was down for a long time, a large number of osdmaps were stored and not trimmed. This led to excessive disk usage. In {storage-product} 4.1z1, osdmaps are trimmed regardless of whether or not there are down OSDs and disk space is not overused.
