| Florian Weimer | 2022-06-24 16:49:25 UTC | Summary | glibc: Backport no-aaaa resolver option to suppress DNS AAAA queries | glibc: Backport no-aaaa resolver option to suppress DNS AAAA queries [rhel-9.1.0] |
| Florian Weimer | 2022-06-24 22:31:05 UTC | Doc Text | Feature: "no-aaaa" DNS stub resolver option Reason: By default, glibc performs AAAA lookups when requested by applications even on systems that lack global IPv6 connectivity. System administrators sometimes want to disable AAAA DNS lookups for diagnostic purposes, for example to rule out that the superfluous lookups on IPv4-only networks do not contribute to DNS issues. Result: glibc now recognizes the "no-aaaa" stub resolver option in /etc/resolv.conf and the RES_OPTIONS environment variable. When this option is active, AAAA queries are translated into A queries, and the result is discarded, to preserve the no data/Name Error distinction. |
