Bipin Kunal 2022-08-09 11:14:42 UTC Doc Text Cause: RADOS Gateway generates the wrong object names when trying to read the bucket index shards on buckets that were sharded in RHCS-5.1 i.e ODF-4.10

Consequence: Upgrading ODF-4.10.x to ODF-4.11.X will result in upgrade of RHCS-5.1 to RHCS-5.2. This will lead to a failure to return the bucket stat information and the OSD returning an ENONET error. To know more about the issue refer to the KCS https://access.redhat.com/articles/6968188

Workaround (if any): NA

Result: ODF-4.10.X cluster where RADOS Gateway is being used, should not be upgraded to any higher version until we have the fix for this issue and there is an available upgrade path.

.RADOS Gateway bucket statistics command fails

RADOS Gateway (RGW) generates the wrong object names when trying to read the bucket index fragments on buckets in ODF-4.11 with RHCS-5.2 that were fragmented in ODF-4.10 with RHCS-5.1. So, upgrading ODF-4.10.x to ODF-4.11.X will result in upgrade of RHCS-5.1 to RHCS-5.2. If RGW is being used, it will lead in failure to return the bucket statistics information and the OSD returning an ENONET error. Matt Benjamin (redhat) 2023-01-06 19:22:01 UTC Doc Text Cause:
RGW as shipped with RHCS-5.1 inadvertently contained logic related to not-yet-GA support for dynamic bucket-index resharding in multisite replication setups. This logic was intentionally removed from RHCS-5.2.

Consequence:
A side effect of this history is that sites which have upgraded to RHCS-5.1 cannot upgrade to RHCS-5.2, since 5.2's bucket metadata handling is not compatible with that of RHCS-5.1.

Fix:
This situation will be resolved via upgrade to RHCS-5.3.

Result:
RHCS-5.3 is able to operate on buckets created in all (recently) prior versions, including 5.1.

.There is no longer an issue with bucket metadata when updating from RHCS 5.1 to a later version

RADOS Gateway (RGW) as shipped with Red Hat Ceph Storage (RHCS) version 5.1 inadvertently contained logic related to not-yet-GA support for dynamic bucket-index resharding in multisite replication setups. This logic was intentionally removed from RHCS 5.2. A side effect of this history is that sites which have upgraded to RHCS 5.1 cannot upgrade to RHCS 5.2, since version 5.2's bucket metadata handling is not compatible with that of RHCS 5.1. This situation is now resolved with the upgrade to RHCS 5.3. As a result, RHCS 5.3 is able to operate on buckets created in all prior versions, including 5.1.
