Vojtech Trefny 2023-07-13 12:04:34 UTC Doc Text Cause:
Storage role is not able to resize devices that are mounted even if the filesystem supports online resize.

Consequence:
Storage role tries to unmount all filesystems prior the resize which will fail for filesystems that are currently in use (for example when trying to resize / of the running system).

Fix:
Storage role now supports resizing of mounted filesystems (for filesystems that support online resize like XFS and Ext4).

Result:
Mounted filesystems can be resized without the need to unmount them first.

.Mounted file systems can be resized with the `storage` role

Previously, the `storage` role was unable to resize devices that were mounted even if the file system supported online resizing. As a consequence, the `storage` role unmounted all file systems prior to the resize, which failed for file systems that were in use, for example, while trying to resize the `/` directory of the running system.

With this update, the `storage` role now supports resizing of mounted file systems that supports online resizing such as XFS and Ext4. As a result, the mounted file systems can now be resized without unmounting them.
