Disk Utility
This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for inclusion in the current release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Because the affected component is not scheduled to be updated in the current release, Red Hat is unable to address this request at this time. Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to propose this request, if appropriate, in the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. In case anyone does want to fix the bug I have some more information. The disk in question is now reporting the following SMART data (summarised) ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x002f 100 092 016 Pre-fail Always - 0 2 Throughput_Performance 0x0027 136 100 054 Pre-fail Always - 95 3 Spin_Up_Time 0x0023 122 100 024 Pre-fail Always - 307 (Average 312) 4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0022 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 44 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 100 100 005 Pre-fail Always - 43 (0 43) ... 196 Reallocated_Event_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 43 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 1 Num Test_Description Status Remaining LifeTime(hours) LBA_of_first_error # 1 Short offline Completed: read failure 60% 8044 88304445 And palimpset now says that the 5 - Reallocated Sector Count is 2818091. 2818091 = 0x2B002B 0x2B = 43 Attribute 5 and 196 are now both reading 43. The disk now has 1 unreadable sector but the Reallocated Sector Count is still bogus and the pattern in the error seems consistent. I will try and get this fixed upstream. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 is in the Production 3 Phase. During the Production 3 Phase, Critical impact Security Advisories (RHSAs) and selected Urgent Priority Bug Fix Advisories (RHBAs) may be released as they become available. The official life cycle policy can be reviewed here: http://redhat.com/rhel/lifecycle This issue does not meet the inclusion criteria for the Production 3 Phase and will be marked as CLOSED/WONTFIX. If this remains a critical requirement, please contact Red Hat Customer Support to request a re-evaluation of the issue, citing a clear business justification. Note that a strong business justification will be required for re-evaluation. Red Hat Customer Support can be contacted via the Red Hat Customer Portal at the following URL: https://access.redhat.com/ |
