Can you attach your ~/.xsession-errors file from a session where this happened? Created attachment 793527 [details]
.xsession-errors from a session where the error occurred
The attachment is actually from a 6.2 Scientific Linux installation but the error occurs here as well.
When the RPM exo is *removed* from the system and the error does *not* occur extra output appears in .xsession-errors:
OMF category 'GNOME|Accessories' not recognised, ignoring.
OMF category 'GNOME|Accessories' not recognised, ignoring.
OMF category 'GNOME|Office' not recognised, ignoring.
OMF category 'GNOME|Accessories' not recognised, ignoring.
OMF category 'GNOME|Accessories' not recognised, ignoring.
ok, nothing much there. Can you try installing exo and running: /usr/bin/gnome-calculator from a terminal and see if there's any output when the help system fails to work? Created attachment 794071 [details]
Output from running gcalctool from a terminal window
The first invocation of gcalctool is *without* exo being installed. The second invocation is *with* exo installed and the help error occurring. Again, there is less output when the error occurs.
yeah, this is a puzzler. ;( Can I get you to install strace and run it on both cases and attach that output? strace -f -o /tmp/trace.out gcalctool Created attachment 795528 [details]
strace output from gcalctool - error does NOT occur
Created attachment 795529 [details]
strace output from gcalctool - error occurs
I don't know if this helps or not, but if I leave "exo" installed but rename /usr/lib64/gio/modules/libexo-module-1.so to something else (or delete it), then the error no longer occurs.
Some. ;) Do you have a ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list file? Would you be willing to file this bug upstream at bugzilla.xfce.org, or would you prefer I do so? No, I do not have a ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list file. I will report this at bugzilla.xfce.org. I just looked at bugzilla.xfce.org - am I expected to try building my own copy of the latest version of exo to see if the bug is still there before I report it? It looks like I should be trying at least version 0.8.0 and not the 0.6.2 that is in EPEL. Did someone ask you to do so? It might be that the exo maintainer wants to know if it's already fixed, but it won't be easy to update exo and they may well have an idea what the problem is in the older version. Whats the upstream bug number? This message is a reminder that EPEL 6 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for EPEL 6 on 2020-11-30. It is our policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a 'version' of 'el6'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later EPEL version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before EPEL 6 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. EPEL el6 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2020-11-30. EPEL el6 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of EPEL please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed. |
