Updating to kernel-4.8.10-300.fc25.x86_64 broke sound, it also started trowing a red error alert at boot instructing to run this command: "systemctl status systemd-modules-load.service" I ran it but cannot make out what the output means or whether its related to sound: systemd-modules-load.service - Load Kernel Modules Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-modules-load.service; static; Active: active (exited) since Mon 2016-12-05 19:06:17 BRST; 7h ago Docs: man:systemd-modules-load.service(8) man:modules-load.d(5) Process: 584 ExecStart=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd-modules-load (code=exited, sta Main PID: 584 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Tasks: 0 (limit: 4915) CGroup: /system.slice/systemd-modules-load.service Dec 05 19:06:17 johnny-lnx systemd[1]: Started Load Kernel Modules. LSPCI of the Sound Card is: 04:00.0 Audio device: Creative Labs Sound Core3D [Sound Blaster Recon3D / Z-Series] (rev 01) I am sure this is just a patch issue, I would have increased this bug priority since its a simple problem to resolve and such a deal breaker to new users. Khm, my sound card never worked. :( I try use analog output. It only worked on kernel-4.8.6-300.fc25.x86_64 tho, Updating to kernel-4.8.10-300.fc25.x86_64 immediately broke it. I also noticed your lspci is slightly different, I may have posted on the wrong thread. Yours: 05:00.0 Audio device: Creative Labs Device 0012 (rev 01) Mine: 04:00.0 Audio device: Creative Labs Sound Core3D [Sound Blaster Recon3D / Z-Series] (rev 01) If you can boot kernel-4.8.6-300.fc25.x86_64 and test the optical output it is worth a shot, there were 2 options on the sound configuration in gnome, the one that worked was 'Digital Output (S/PDIF)'. I hope it works for you. Kernel 4.8.11-300.fc25.x86_64 fixed for me with: 04:00.0 Audio device: Creative Labs Sound Core3D [Sound Blaster Recon3D / Z-Series] (rev 01) It also stopped trowing module-load errors at boot too, thanks guys! It was a false positive, even on Kernel 4.8.11-300.fc25.x86_64 it does not work consistently with: 04:00.0 Audio device: Creative Labs Sound Core3D [Sound Blaster Recon3D / Z-Series] (rev 01) The problem may be, and others may be able to confirm, 2 audio cards using the same kernel module: 04:00.0 Audio device: Creative Labs Sound Core3D [Sound Blaster Recon3D / Z-Series] (rev 01) Subsystem: Creative Labs SB1570 SB Audigy Fx Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 19 Memory at df104000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K] Memory at df100000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K] Capabilities: <access denied> Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel Kernel modules: snd_hda_intel AND 01:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GM200 High Definition Audio (rev a1) Subsystem: eVga.com. Corp. Device 4995 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17 Memory at df080000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K] Capabilities: <access denied> Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel Kernel modules: snd_hda_intel Both are using snd_hda_intel, probably in the wrong order so this explains why sometimes I get audio and sometimes I don't. During boot, it eventually set the Creative as the main card and audio works, most times it set NVidia as the default card and audio do not work via Creative sound card. I tried to edit /etc/asound.conf to give priority to Creative but it did not work: # alias snd-card-1 snd-hda-intel alias snd-card-2 snd-hda-intel options snd-hda-intel id=Creative index=1 options snd-hda-intel id=NVIDIA index=2 # snd-card-0 is a USB headset dongle that works perfectly with a different module so I did no mess with it. Turns out this may be a very specific bug for people with discrete, audio capable, GPU. Turns out the culprit is: 2 [Headset ]: USB-Audio - Wireless Stereo Headset Sony Computer Entertainment Wireless Stereo Headset at usb-0000:00:14.0-9, full If I boot the system with the USB headset dongle in it, it is set as snd-card-0 and breaks: 1 [Creative ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Creative HDA Creative at 0xdf104000 irq 19 If I insert the dongle after the computer boots up the system is able to swap the audio output between the two as expected, if I boot the computer with the dongle in only the dongle audio works. Solution is to take out the dongle before turning on the computer. *********** MASS BUG UPDATE ************** We apologize for the inconvenience. There is a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale. The kernel moves very fast so bugs may get fixed as part of a kernel update. Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 26 kernel bugs. Fedora 26 has now been rebased to 4.15.4-200.fc26. Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel. If you have moved on to Fedora 27, and are still experiencing this issue, please change the version to Fedora 27. If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those. still not fixed $ uname -a Linux localhost.localdomain 4.15.7-300.fc27.x86_64+debug #1 SMP Wed Feb 28 17:32:16 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux *********** MASS BUG UPDATE ************** We apologize for the inconvenience.
