We need to see at low level what is going wrong. Have you reproduced this problem by hand, outside the STP framework? Have you tried the failing gdb run under strace to watch its ptrace calls? This is an ancient bug. Can the problem still be reproduced on RHEL3 U6? This bug is filed against RHEL 3, which is in maintenance phase. During the maintenance phase, only security errata and select mission critical bug fixes will be released for enterprise products. Since this bug does not meet that criteria, it is now being closed.
