Description of problem:'add/remove software' and 'updates' cannot be opened. also 'yum install' is not working in the terminal.

 This looks like something is in /etc/yum.repos.d/*.repo that is not a valid .repo file (and yum is failing trying to parse it as a repo. file).
 Try grepping for "sudo rpm" etc. to find the bad file.

 Given pirut has been dead since RHEL-6, and this should be a very rare problem. Going to close this now, as we are very late in RHEL-5.
