Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Vasiliy Sharapov 2013-11-24 04:46:37 UTC
Filed from caserun https://tcms.engineering.redhat.com/run/100139/#caserun_3856450

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Build : RHEL-7.0-20131111.1
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.14.99.901-5.20131101.el7.x86_64

Steps to Reproduce:
 1. Log in a gnome session
 2. Suspend

 1. Resume from suspend
 2. Log out from your gnome session

Actual results:
Machine hangs on resume. No numlock reflex. GPU fans which seem to always be locked to MAX for this card stay low. SSH still works - this is the end of the Xorg log:
[ 879.812] (II) VESA(0): Setting up VESA Mode 0x1D4 (1920x1080)
[ 879.813] (II) VESA(0): VBESetVBEMode failed
[ 879.813] (EE)
Fatal server error:
[ 879.813] (EE) EnterVT failed for screen 0
[ 879.813] (EE)
[ 879.813] (EE)
Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
         at http://wiki.x.org
 for help.
[ 879.813] (EE) Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.
[ 879.813] (EE)

Expected results:
Verify that GDM displays and there's no system freeze.

Comment 2 Jérôme Glisse 2013-12-10 21:35:24 UTC
You need linux-firmware >= 20131106-0.1.git7d0c7a8

Comment 3 Jérôme Glisse 2014-03-07 15:26:27 UTC
We believe this is already fixed but moving to 7.1

Comment 4 Vasiliy Sharapov 2014-03-15 01:14:19 UTC
Still present in RHEL-7.0-20140214.0

Comment 5 Vasiliy Sharapov 2014-03-15 01:18:59 UTC

Oops, actually this is fixed. Issue is different now.
New bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1076751

Comment 7 Jérôme Glisse 2014-07-17 15:22:08 UTC
This should already work in 7.0 but reassigning to kernel as if it is an issue than it is a kernel issue.

Comment 8 Vasiliy Sharapov 2014-10-22 13:08:53 UTC
Retested on build : RHEL-7.1-20141006.1
  linux-firmware-20140911-0.1.git365e80c.el7.noarch
  kernel-3.10.0-175.el7.x86_64
  mesa-dri-drivers-10.2.7-3.20140910.el7.x86_64
  xorg-x11-drv-ati-7.4.0-1.20140918git56c7fb8.el7.x86_64
  xorg-x11-glamor-0.6.0-2.20140918git347ef4f.el7.x86_64
No longer affects: Radeon HD 8770 [1002:6650]
Suspends and resumes twice fine.
