Description Cristian Ciupitu 2013-11-26 13:28:21 UTC
Description of problem:
chmsee is currently under the "Accessories" start menu category/group.
Instead it should be under the "Office" just like evince ("Document
Viewer"), FBReader and KchmViewer.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
chmsee-2.0.2-4.git86d101c9.fc20.x86_64

How reproducible:
Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start XFCE.
2. Open the "Applications Menu".
3. Look under "Accessories".
4. Look under "Office".

Actual results:
chmsee is under "Accessories".

Expected results:
chmsee is under "Office".

Additional info:
evince-3.10.3-1.fc20.x86_64
fbreader-0.12.10-14.fc20.x86_64

Bug #1034765 (xchm) is related.

Comment 2 Yijun Yuan 2013-12-01 05:26:44 UTC
Thanks for the idea. Firstly categories is less useful at least to me, secondly it should be consistent (even across distributions). Would you mind if I forward to upstream instead?

Thanks.

Since you've moved the issue upstream could please add the external
tracker to this bug or if RH BZ doesn't have it, post a link? Thanks.

Hi-

According to the spec, "Desktop entries should list all categories that clearly apply. They should not list categories that only vaguely or possibly apply, because the user will end up seeing the same desktop entry in a half-dozen places. But it's typical that several categories will apply to a given desktop entry."

And evince.desktop contains this line:

 Categories=GNOME;GTK;Office;Viewer;Graphics;2DGraphics;VectorGraphics;

Would you please confirm if evince do appear in both "Office" as well as "Graphics" menus? I want to suggest "Viewer" to be added, which seems to require "Graphics or Office"? Basically it is a document viewer, is there any other category do you think is appropriate?

BTW, I just noticed upstream has announced "2013-08-25: Stop maintain". I'd like to keep it in the repository for now.

Thanks.

Notice that evince appears under both "Graphics" and "Office" submenus.

Thanks. https://github.com/jungleji/chmsee/pull/2

BTW the tool is no longer supported (said on its web page), I'd like to keep it in repo until there is anything I cannot fix.
