Description Richard Hitt 2013-12-04 21:58:44 UTC
Description of problem:
kernel parameter "consoleblank=" does not blank screen but does stop writing to screen

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 20 Beta, kernel 3.11.10-300.fc20/x86_64

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Add "consoleblank=13" to kernel parameters in /boot/grub2/grub.cfg and reboot
2. Enter a tty by, say, doing Control-Alt-F3 and observe login prompt
3. Observe that after 13 seconds the login prompt remains; no blanking occurred

Actual results:
See above

Expected results:
After 13 seconds, the screen should go blank, including the login prompt. Works correctly in Fedora 18.

Additional info:
1. These tests were run under VMware Workstation 10 on real Fedora 17 and 19 machines
2. Additionally do these steps:
a. login at the login prompt
b. run this shell command: while true; do sleep 1; date; done
and note that after 13 seconds the timestamp lines stop printing.
c. Hit Control and note that the unprinted timestamp lines appear all at once
d. After another 13 seconds or so, note that formatting has become corrupt.
3. There's nothing special about '13' or 13 seconds; it's merely an experimental testing time duration to illustrate the problem.
