1.4.4 is the last stable release on the PEAR channel [1].

In order to update PhpDocumentor it needs to move to a composer install using its' source [1] and there are quite a few package dependencies [2] and will require quite a bit of work.  When this happens, a new (i.e. renamed) package will be created.
