Description Steve Welch 2013-12-20 18:06:19 UTC
Description of problem: When Automatic Login is enabled and a non-default desktop background is used for normal user and the system is re-booted, the Desktop shows as "plain, White" background.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Fedora 20

How reproducible: Install Fedora 20, provision a normal user (standard or Administrator), select a non-default Desktop Background, enable Automatic Login and reboot.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install Fedora 20, Gnome Desktop
2.Provision a normal user, either standard or Administrator, change desktop background to a non-default background.
3. using system settings, users, enable Automatic Login - reboot

Actual results: Desktop background is not presented, instead, a plain, white background is shown.

Expected results: The selected non-default background should be displayed.

Additional info: Once the Automatic Login is disabled and rebooted, the desktop shows the proper, selected background. Note also, if the user logs out and logs back in, the background is correct - It appears that the Automatic Login process is breaking the presentation of the selected background (non-default).

Comment 2 Steve Welch 2013-12-21 20:31:15 UTC
I don't feel that the bug reported in Comment 1 relates to mine. It notes that the issue was sporadic, not consistent and implications that I got was that it related to NVIDIA video cards and drivers.
While my machine has a NVIDIA video card, the drivers are the standard default (nouveau) for the F20.
This occurs 100% as follows:
Change the Desktop background to a non-default background
Enable Automatic Login via System Settings-Users-Enable Auto Login.
Reboot

Note also that any of the following brings the proper desktop up:
logout-login
Alt-F2 r <Enter>

The key factor here appears to be the Automatic Login feature:
If it is enabled, the issue is present.
If it is NOT enabled, the issue is NOT present.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2015-05-29 10:04:46 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '20'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2015-06-29 13:40:12 UTC
Fedora 20 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-06-23. Fedora 20 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
