Description Chris Elmquist 2014-01-03 20:38:16 UTC
Description of problem:

after update to icewm-1.3.8.fc18, icewm will no longer execute

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
1.3.8-1.fc18

How reproducible:
consistent. Install update RPM, restart X, ICEWM crashes with error exit

Steps to Reproduce:
1. yum update, icewm-1.3.8-1 gets updated
2. startx
3.

Actual results:

icewm fails to execute with numerous errors,

GLib-GObject-CRITICAL ** gtype.c 2720: You forgot to call g_type_init()

and

g_type_interface_add_prerequistite: assertion `G_TYPE_IS_INTERFACE (interface type)' failed

g_once_init_leave: assertion `result != 0' failed

and several more errors.

Expected results:
icewm should execute and provide a window manager as icewm-1.3.7-7.fc18 did.

Additional info:

reverting system to icewm-1.3.7-7.fc18 restores expected functionality. Toggling between 1.3.8-1 and 1.3.7-7 proves that whenever 1.3.8-1 is installed, icewm will not execute.

I made a comment about this issue in bug 1031459 also.

Comment 1 Chris Elmquist 2014-01-09 16:07:25 UTC
Gilboa,

Thank you for your comments in bug 1031459 on this issue. It is understood that mistakes happen and appreciated if you can fix it while FC18 is still active.

Many of us need to continue to use the releases after they have been EOL'd because our migration timelines do not line up exactly with the EOL timeline.

Therefore, it is hoped that an FC18 fix can be released and I am monitoring this bug actively so that if you do have a fix, I am ready and able to test it for you quickly.

Thank you.

Chris

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2014-02-05 23:15:23 UTC
Fedora 18 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2014-01-14. Fedora 18 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
