Description John Morris 2014-01-07 23:42:28 UTC
Description of problem:

When I boot my Thinkpad X200s on the dock with an external display and the lid closed, the BIOS, GRUB and Plymouth messages appear on the external display. The login dialog isn't visible until I open the lid and can then see it there in the wrong place. CTRL-ALT-F2 also flips to a text console on the external display correctly.

This exact same bug is also reported for GDM as well, I was trying lightdm as a workaround to it as well as general GNOME removal. So is this an X bug of some sort? No idea where this really needs to be filed but I guess it can be ignored here as good as anywhere else. The gdm bug has been there for a couple of releases.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

lightdm-1.8.5-2.fc20.x86_64

Comment 1 Vitaly 2014-01-29 01:24:59 UTC
I can confirm this for lightdm-1.8.5-2.fc20.x86_64. I think it is worth trying to contact upstream. Short look at https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/ didn't expose any action on this, so I go report this stuff there.

Comment 2 Vitaly 2014-01-29 01:39:15 UTC
Reported to upstream https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/1273913

Comment 3 Vitaly 2014-01-29 06:13:06 UTC
Reported here https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm-gtk-greeter/+bug/1273922 as first report was in a wrong place...

For now you might try installing lightdm-razorqt and set "greeter-session=lightdm-razor-greeter" option in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
. For me it works better.

Comment 4 Jaroslav Škarvada 2014-04-23 13:09:01 UTC
This is not only issue for physical DP connections, but also for setups where the DP is "wired internally". E.g. in Ultra Docks for X40 ThinkPads, there is DP hub transforming the signal to HDMI, VGA and DVI. So I am affected by this issue regardless the port I use for external monitor connection.

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2015-05-29 10:22:39 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '20'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 6 Fedora End Of Life 2015-06-29 14:14:49 UTC
Fedora 20 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-06-23. Fedora 20 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
