as requested in #bug 1057975 in #comment 2 :

virt-manager needs to be extended to offer to remove the disk image when removing a disk device from a VM, it doesn't presently.

Work for this is upstream but not yet released. Setting to MODIFIED, I will close this when a release is out

This is in virt-manager 3.0.0 released now
