Gnome shell crashes every time when trying to open "Activities" on ThinkPad X40 (Intel 855GM). Abrt refers to this bug.

Comment 13 Dan Williams 2014-04-01 17:22:52 UTC
Same here on a Thinkpad T42 (r7500 mobility). Activities causes a gnome-shell crash with same backtrace.

"ajax: yeah, wouldn't be surprised if cogl accidentally assumed gl > 1.3 at this point"

Comment 14 apu 2014-04-06 06:41:57 UTC
ThinkPad T42.

This bug renders system usless since to select anything you need to click an activities button, but clicking activities button crashes gnome-shell. Probably should be escalated.

Tried to reinstall gnome-desktop - did not solve the problem.

>4000 reports on the retrace server, this looks bad....

Comment 16 Krisztian Ganyai 2014-04-21 13:11:00 UTC
Having the same issue on a Compaq Presario(x1201) with Radeon 9000 mobility.

For me, even browsing through the Applications menu(in classic mode) can crash gnome-shell. By default if I go into Graphics, the shell crashes. However, if I remove the icon of Wings 3D(and probly a few others as well), it doesn't.

Also noticed, that extensive scrolling in the gnome-terminal can crash shell as well. It happened a few times during a lengthy system update.

I know I'm using ancient tech, but if this could be fixed, It'd be great.

Comment 17 rpfeiffer 2014-04-22 23:58:34 UTC
Another user experienced a similar problem:

install Fedora 20 and clicked on Activities, the screen blinked and save the error.

Comment 18 Fedora End Of Life 2015-05-29 10:53:54 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '20'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 19 Fedora End Of Life 2015-06-29 15:09:50 UTC
Fedora 20 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-06-23. Fedora 20 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
