Description Joergen Thomsen 2014-03-04 19:08:00 UTC
Description of problem:

Installation wanted on previously partitioned GPT hard drive with standard partions in a one hard drive system.
No partition change, no LVM, nothing. Just installation without the installer messing around with the partitions.

The custom partioning does not allow the allocation of root partition (/) and swap partition to the Feodora 20 system and the installer complains abouth no root partition. Other mount points as (/boot) and (/data1) can be assigned to partitions and subsequently show up listed as Fedora 20 partitions

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

alwaýs

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start installation from full Fedora DVD at USB key
2. Enter the custom partitioning.
No partitions listed under Fedora 20. All existing partitions listed under
   'unknown'
3. Enter wanted mount points for each partition

Actual results:

Partitions to be used as root (/) and swap cannot be changed to have them assigned to the Fedora 20 list of partitions. The installer complains about missing root partition.

Expected results:

Fedora 20 with all the current partitions assigned mount points and possible to proceed with the installation.

Have you ticked the "format" checkbox for the partition you want to use as root partition ? Anaconda won't let you use a partition as / if it is not marked to be formatted.

Yes, I have and then it is possible and everything on that partition is wiped.

Anaconda should not make any artificial restrictions.

There is too much of "Microsoft: We know what you want" in the anaconda installer.
It is fine to make things simple for the simple user, but it should not prevent the experienced user from doing what he wants. I have been fighting for hours to install a 'Web server' with a Xcfe GUI. That also simply does not work in the installer.
