I can't upload the doc because it contains private information, but after trying to open in on my phone it looks like the file is simply corrupt.  I suppose that even if the file is un-openable libreoffice should exit cleanly.  If you contact me out of band we should be able to sort something out with the file, that's if you would like to keep investigating this issue.  Closing would be fine with me.
