Description of problem:

Since kernel-3.14.3-200.fc20.x86_64, video playback with vlc started to malfunction. Videos are being played "stuttering"/"sluggish" instead of continuously.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-3.14.3-200.fc20.x86_6

The yet unreleased kernel-3.14.4-200.fc20.x86_64 exposes the same behaviour.

How reproducible:
Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. run vlc <somemovie>


Actual results:
No continuous/steady video playback

Expected results:
Function.

Additional info:
- Downgrading the kernel to kernel-3.13.10-200.fc20.x86_64 with the rest of the system unchanged, immediately remedies this problem.
- When the (USB-) mouse is being moved, vlc seems to proceed with video playback corresponding to the mouse movement/speed and stop when mouse is not moved (USB- and/or IRQ problems?)

I get a frozen image on Fedora 19, kernel 3.14.4-100.fc19.x86_64, using xine and mythtv.

I have:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th
Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06) (prog-if 00
[VGA controller])

Booting kernel-3.13.11-100.fc19.x86_64, it works fine.

On a VMware system, video playback works fine.

- CPU is a i5-4570 (Haswell) w/ Intel HD Graphics 4600

- 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)

- From /proc/cpuinfo
cpu family	: 6
model		: 60
model name	: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20GHz
stepping	: 3
microcode	: 0x17

- kaffeine is also affected (I haven't tried mythtv or xine).

We apologize for the inconvenience.  There is a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale.  Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 20 kernel bugs.

Fedora 20 has now been rebased to 3.17.2-200.fc20.  Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel.

If you have moved on to Fedora 21, and are still experiencing this issue, please change the version to Fedora 21.

If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.

This bug is being closed with INSUFFICIENT_DATA as there has not been a response in over 3 weeks. If you are still experiencing this issue, please reopen and attach the relevant data from the latest kernel you are running and any data that might have been requested previously.
