Hi Pete,
I have updated the spec to the latest version:

https://jamatos.fedorapeople.org/python-nikola.spec

with the difference being here

https://jamatos.fedorapeople.org/python-nikola-update.diff

What do you think?

As soon as python-natsort goes into the repository we can update python-nikola, at least for f21. I would like to hear you about older releases although upstream clearly states that only the latest versions are supported.

I've found a few bugs in upstream Nikola 7.1.0. They've been very quick at fixing them and the fixes will be in 7.2.0 but I don't know what their schedule is. Their Github repo isn't showing any dates, and I don't know if they'll backport bug fixes. They're very active on Github - https://github.com/getnikola/nikola/milestones

Comment 5 Pete Travis 2014-10-12 04:11:13 UTC
Looks good to me, José. My nikola site didn't break from moving to this version, but it isn't very complex. There upstream warning about deprecated options and custom theme issues does make me nervous about pushing 7.x to f19,f20 - but you're right that upstream focuses on the latest version. And, I have a suspicion that many nikola enthusiasts will just use pip to get new features if our package stays behind.

It might be better to bump the version for F20 at least, since it will be around for a while. For this package, what do you think about making a best effort to track the upstream latest release in supported Fedora versions?

Ed, the Nikola developers are usually good about making timely releases, and making sure that changes to Nikola won't break your site. We'll try getting the 7.2 release out (at least in F21) soon after it is available.

Yeah, I switched to a virtualenv/pip install, although I'm pretty sure my site is vanilla enough to work in the version that's in F21 alpha.

The three bugs I found in 7.1.0 got fixed as soon as they saw the issues posted on Github.

Nikola 7.2.0 just dropped - I'm about to test it on my blog that seriously broke 7.1.0. Stay tuned! ;-)

Comment 9 M. Edward (Ed) Borasky 2014-11-04 19:10:11 UTC
I'm running Nikola 7.2.0 directly from the Python repositories and it's much better than 7.1.0!

Comment 10 Pete Travis 2014-11-08 22:06:34 UTC
I have the spec for rawhide updated for 7.2.0, but it wants to have a newer version of a couple packages. When these have been updated, we will be able to push out the Nikola update.

Comment 11 Pete Travis 2014-11-21 07:27:10 UTC
There's one more point of contention here - upstream has setuptools>=5.4.1, which we can only meet in rawhide.  I *suspect* that as a result of https://github.com/getnikola/nikola/issues/1320 there was an explicit dependency declared as more of a cautionary measure than a need for a given feature;

http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=8198926

Comment 12 Pete Travis 2014-11-21 07:29:20 UTC
Oops, working on two different vectors here and forgot there was text in the box. Disregard that koji link; the build is missing the dateutil dep, which also needs to be addressed.
