Description Scott Mace 2003-11-16 16:10:06 UTC
Description of problem:

Using Fedora v .95, trying to dial into ISP using Kppp. Modem is a
Lucent Winmodem, driver compiled from ltmodem driver source from
www.heby.de/ltmodem/, ltmodem-8.26a9.tar.gz. This worked under RH
9.0, but compiling under Fedora Core .95 produces the following:

open Kppp, setup is correct, correct port, etc.

connect to Isp...

modem dials, (sound is enabled, I hear dialing, connecting)

as soon as the pppd daemon starts, it INSTANTLY produces the message
"pppd daemon died unexpectedly"
no exit code is given.

btw, my kernel source version is 2.4.22-1.2088.nptl

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
ppp version 2.4.1

How reproducible:

build this driver and attempt to use it.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Actual results:

as soon as the pppd daemon starts, it INSTANTLY produces the message
"pppd daemon died unexpectedly"
no exit code is given.

Expected results:

I broke down and bought a Linux-compatible US Robotics modem, and no
more problems w/ pppd. Sugguests a problem w/ the compiled driver
that was not pppd.
