An error in first character optimization was causing PCRE to incorrectly evaluate regular expressions where a start-anchored character with more than once case follows circumflex in multi-line UTF-8 mode. This update resolves the problem and PCRE now properly evaluates these regular expressions.

A bug has been reported to the upstream:

$ printf '%s\n%s\n' '/^s?c/mi8W' 'sc' | pcretest 
PCRE version 8.33 2013-05-28

  re> data> No match

While this work with 8.31:

$ printf '%s\n%s\n' '/^s?c/mi8W' 'sc' | ./pcretest
PCRE version 8.31 2012-07-06

  re> data>  0: sc
data> 

Proposed fix is posted there.

RHEL-7 (pcre-8.32-12.el7.x86_64) is affected.
