According to http://upstream-tracker.org/versions/gmp.html there are no removed symbols between 5.1.3 and 6.0.0 (only added/removed/changed symbols were not present in 5.1.3). GMP is ABI/API level 2 component - thus it has to be stable across one major release. However, as the update capacity is always limited, I don't see this as a high priority. http://www2.marist.edu/htbin/wlvtype?LINUX-VM.89576 (and my answer in the thread) is another reason, there are perfomance improvements in the 6.0 version at least for the s390(x) architectures, added optimized support for aarch64 and likely also other advantages Discussed with Dan and it makes sense from development point of view. However, it has to be confirmed with QE ( and API/ABI compat tested on all arches). *** Bug 1019408 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Since the problem described in this bug report should be resolved in a recent advisory, it has been closed with a resolution of ERRATA.
