File encrypted in Nautilus with right-click none

Description Steven Rosenberg 2014-07-07 16:35:13 UTC
Description of problem:

Installing seahorse-nautilus allows me to encrypt a file by right-clicking in Nautilus, but there is no way to decrypt that file -- right-clicking doesn't offer a "decrypt" option.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

3.10.1-1.fc20

How reproducible:

Try to encrypt and decrypt a file in Nautilus using right-click

Steps to Reproduce:
1. In Nautilus, right-click a file, choose "encrypt" and follow steps to encrypt.
2. Right-click on encrypted file. There is no option to decrypt.

Actual results:

No option to decrypt with right-click in Nautilus

Expected results:

Right-clicking on encrypted file in Nautilus should offer option to decrypt.

Additional info:

Comment 1 Stef Walter 2014-07-08 06:55:23 UTC
The first option on the menu should be a Decrypt option. If not, please attach the encrypted file for which the Decrypt menu item does not appear.

File encrypted in Nautilus with right-click

I encrypted this file in Nautilus (using seahorse-nautilus) with right-click.

When I right-click on the encrypted file, there is no option to decrypt.

This file was encrypted with passphrase only (and that passphrase is "test")

Comment 3 Stef Walter 2014-07-11 15:35:24 UTC
When I right click on this file, the first menu item in GNOME nautilus allows me to decrypt the item.

Could you send the output of the following:

$ xdg-mime query filetype /path/to/file.ext

Comment 4 Steven Rosenberg 2014-07-11 20:01:55 UTC
$ xdg-mime query filetype encryption_test.pgp

application/pgp-signature

Comment 5 Kahlil Hodgson 2014-08-29 06:18:20 UTC
I'm experiencing the same problem. Note that my system was initially missing seahorse-nautilus package. Installing that gave me the encrypt/sign option but not the a decrypt option. (Tried logging in and out too). Wondering if my system is missing a required library, or if there is some packaging bug that fails to setup the integration correctly.

Comment 6 Francis Hemingway 2015-01-03 14:46:18 UTC
I'm experiencing the same problem, but on Fedora 21 not 20 as in this bug - version of the package is seahorse-nautilus-3.11.92-3.fc21.x86_64

Comment 7 Kahlil Hodgson 2015-01-05 23:33:18 UTC
After installing seahorse-nautilus on F21 and rebooting, the problems seems to be resolved for me.

Comment 8 Dane 2015-01-06 16:56:33 UTC
I'm also having the same issues as comment #6 - no option to decrypt in Fedora 21, although encryption works fine and the menu options are present. The MIME type of the file is identical to that reported in comment #4. A reboot did not fix the issue unlike #7.

nautilus-3.14.2-1.fc21.x86_64
seahorse-nautilus-3.11.92-3.fc21.x86_64
seahorse-3.14.0-3.fc21.x86_64

Comment 9 Steven Rosenberg 2015-01-10 01:53:16 UTC
I am now running Fedora 21, and the issue has been resolved for me in the update.

Comment 10 Jeff Peeler 2015-02-16 22:27:48 UTC
I've run into this too. Bug 845855 also describes the same problem existing since Fedora 17. The detected filetype for the "non-decryptable" file for me in Nautilus is application/pgp-encrypted.

Note: I haven't rebooted yet, but find that to be a weird fix. I installed nautilus-seahorse and restarted gnome shell to add the encrypt option to the right click menu.

Comment 11 Fedora End Of Life 2015-05-29 12:19:05 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '20'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 12 Fedora End Of Life 2015-06-29 21:30:39 UTC
Fedora 20 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-06-23. Fedora 20 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

Comment 13 Jonathan Haas 2018-05-30 15:03:09 UTC
This still happens on my PC with Fedora 28

Comment 14 Jonathan Haas 2018-05-30 15:05:09 UTC
Workaround: Execute

gio mime application/pgp-encrypted seahorse-pgp-encrypted.desktop
