Description of problem:

By default, sendmail starts as a service. Its memory footprint when
doing nothing is about 2.5Mb. It also adds a few seconds to system
startup.
Sendmail should be run through xinetd by default. Users who have the
wish and comptence to configure sendmail will also know how to run it
through /etc/init.d instead of xinetd. (i.e. If they can configure
sendmail.cf, they will know how to switch from xinetd to rc.d).

1. Install Fedora!
  
Actual results:

Sendmail runs always, wasting memory and CPU cycles.

Expected results:

Sendmail should be run via xinetd, and hence only run on demand.

Setup will stay as it is, but you can change to the above for your
local machines anytime. Please also note that you might want to run
sendmail then also from cron to make sure queue runs get done.
