This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 22 development cycle. Changing version to '22'. More information and reason for this action is here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_Program_Management/HouseKeeping/Fedora22 Good point. I have no idea how to address this, though. I would like to avoid setuid root for the beep binary. Still an issue in F24. beep-1.3-15.fc23 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 23. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-fe709c6f59 beep-1.3-15.fc22 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 22. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-b44c593f3f beep-1.3-15.fc24 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 24. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-59e421818f beep-1.3-16.fc22 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 22. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-b7b558ac96 beep-1.3-16.fc23 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 23. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-5aa5d3a2f1 beep-1.3-16.fc24 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 24. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-368b7a4ca3 beep-1.3-16.fc24 has been pushed to the Fedora 24 testing repository. I would like to be able to use beep after complilation ends, such as in: rpmbuild --rebuild --clean calibre-2.0.0-1.fc21.src.rpm && beep But the problem is that beep only works for root, since standard users have this error message: $ beep Could not open /dev/tty0 or /dev/vc/0 for writing open: No such file or directory Is there no way to fix this in the program itself? Should I report the issue upstream? Many thanks for your help, Pablo
