Description David O'Brien 2014-09-09 06:30:01 UTC
Description of problem:

Left-over from 6.0 review:

> 3.6.3 "Importing Users"
>
> "Deleting imported Users" - you can use --delete with any command (including
> all, now). Do we want to describe it more generally?
>
Prefer to make this 6.1 or async release post-GA. I think it needs more than a casual mention, and I need to know just what it does, and potential dangers.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

6.0.4

Rich (or anyone)

Can you provide a use case and example for this?

Looking at --help I see:
--delete Delete entities instead of importing them
Default: false

Why would you do that? The existing section only describes how, not why.

3.7.2. Importing Users
"Deleting Imported Users"

thanks

Bumped the list for info.

Comment 9 David O'Brien 2016-01-19 01:34:27 UTC
Based on Comment 7 perhaps we could turn this over to Peter for consideration for the Hammer Ref Guide?

Peter?

Comment 12 David O'Brien 2016-02-02 23:11:57 UTC
adahms commented he'd review this and other hammer "need-info" bugs to determine where bets to put them.

Comment 13 Andrew Dahms 2016-02-03 03:23:52 UTC
I agree that this content is a good candidate for the Transition Guide, where users will be most likely to use these commands.

We can add a link to the Transition Guide from the CLI Guide where necessary, but the scope of this bug shall cover the documentation of this flag in the Transition Guide.

Comment 14 David O'Brien 2016-02-09 02:45:50 UTC
Here's the plan:

Because --delete works with any entity now, including "all", let's take the subsection "Deleting Users" out, and create a new entry in the FAQ about "undoing" an import. We can include info about "--delete <entity>" and "--delete all", include the extended info in this bug, and use the existing Deleting Imported Users subsection as an example.

The new entry can include the why, the how, example scenario, and the above-mentioned example.

Hi David,

Thank you for the needinfo request - this sounds like a good plan of attack to me!

Kind regards,

Andrew

Ack from Grant so I'll give it a quick once-over before peer review.

Assigning Peter as the QA contact.

Peter - could you take a look at the changes for this bug?
