This is a RHEL 7 only patch: https://github.com/libguestfs/libguestfs/commit/f19f2847b7ae15e629d66c6d2dc53128d0826419 After applying this patch you should see: $ LIBGUESTFS_BACKEND=uml guestfish -a /dev/null run libguestfs: error: launch: In RHEL, only the 'libvirt' or 'direct' method is supported. In particular, User-Mode Linux (UML) is not supported. Verified with libguestfs-tools-c-1.28.1-1.2.el7 Steps to verify: # export LIBGUESTFS_BACKEND=uml # guestfish -a /dev/null run libguestfs: error: launch: In RHEL, only the 'libvirt' or 'direct' method is supported. In particular, User-Mode Linux (UML) is not supported. Since the problem described in this bug report should be resolved in a recent advisory, it has been closed with a resolution of ERRATA.
