Description Fred van Zwieten 2015-01-31 07:08:17 UTC
Description of problem:
Satellite has two concepts of Hosts: "Host" from the POV of provisioning and configuration management (The Foreman Host) and "Content Host" from the POV of content management (The Katello Host). Although I understand how this came to be, it is hugely confusing for customers. I propose to merge both concepts into a single: the "Host". Just abstract it away in the Web GUI (single menu entry) in Hammer, and in the API (no 2 separate entry points in V3, just /api)

Also, the different menu items under the main menu "Hosts" is confusing:
- "All Hosts" is Foreman POV,
- "Content Hosts" is Katello POV.
- "Host Collections" is Katello POV.
- "Discovered Hosts" is Foreman POV
- "New Host" is Foreman POV

Also, both Content Host and Host, as entities, have "facts". The "Host" entity has the facts delivered by Puppet and the "Content Host" has "facts" delivered by the katello agent. There should be one set of "facts".

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Look at main menu "Hosts". It's got "All Hosts" and "Content Hosts"
Look at the details of a "Content Host" and look at the facts of the accompanying "Host"

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Browse around in both Hosts and Content Hosts
2.
3.

Actual results:
Content Hosts
Hosts

Expected results:
Hosts

Additional info:
I am sure there must already be a BZ about this somewhere, I just can't find it.
