Description Terry Davis 2004-04-08 14:34:52 UTC
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)

Description of problem:
I see the following behavior in both the 2140 and 2174 SMP kernels.
Boot will sometimes work and sometimes not. It also fails at
intermittent spots. For example, it is not failing at Postfix start.
10 minutes ago it failed at checking for new hardware. Yesterday,
the 2174 smp kernel booted fine. The single processor kernel works
fine all the time.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-smp-2.4.22-1.2174.nptl

How reproducible:
Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Choose 2174/2140 SMP kernel
2. Watch it fail at intermittent spots

Additional info:

The box is a Dell 1650

give it a run with memtest86 to rule out bad memory.

if it's failing in different places, that makes me suspect hardware.

Thanks for the bug report. However, Red Hat no longer maintains this version of
the product. Please upgrade to the latest version and open a new bug if the problem
persists.

The Fedora Legacy project (http://fedoralegacy.org/) maintains some older releases,
and if you believe this bug is interesting to them, please report the problem in
the bug tracker at: http://bugzilla.fedora.us/
