Description Mark Whitehouse 2004-05-07 19:45:54 UTC
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040505

Description of problem:
Cannot change the resolution from the intial 640x480 using
system-config-display.

Initially, system-config-display only displays two resolution choices:

  640x480
  800x600

After switching to the Hardware tab and reselecting the monitor
(ViewSonic P815) and card (NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX (generic)), a complete
list of resolutions appears in the Settings tab.

Selecting any on these resolutions and then logging out has no effect.

Hardware:
  Dell Dimension 8200
  Viewsonic P815
  NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-6.7.0-0.5

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Invoke system-config-display
2. Attempt to change resolution
3. Logout

Actual Results: The resolution was still 640x480.

Expected Results: The resolution should have changed.

Additional info:

Output from system-config-display:

  [root@fed1 mark]# system-config-display
  * ddcprobe returned bogus values:
  ID: None
  Name: None
  HorizSync: None
  VertSync: None

Trying with card: NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX (generic)

this seems to be a common problem with core 2 test 3. i'm getting
the same thing on my dell inspiron 8200 lapotop with a geforce 4 go.
