Description Graeme Gillies 2015-06-16 03:34:25 UTC
Description of problem:

When running instack-ironic-deployment --register-nodes and there is an error creating the nodes, the output gives no indication for the error. Indeed it is incredibly confusing. Likewise even using the -x flag gives you the shell commands executed, but because output from register-nodes is redirected

1>/dev/null

We can never see the error.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

instack-undercloud-2.1.2-dev20.el7.centos.noarch

How reproducible:

Very easily

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create bad instackenv.json
2. run instack-ironic-deployment --register-nodes --nodes-json instackenv.json

Actual results:

You get told

Preparing for deployment...
  Registering nodes from instacknodes.json

And it kind of looks like the step worked

Expected results:

Meaningful error returned
