Description of problem:
An HP proliant dual xeon 2.4G with Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI 
HBA DRIVER, Rev 6.2.8, 3.2TB raid running samba Version 2.2.8a hangs 
unexpectedly with no messages in syslog or console. top shows 
increasing load average, all i/o with raid is locked out and system 
ignores attempts to reboot (ps showing 'shutdown -r' but nothing's 
actually happening).

Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Run samba
2.Leave system serving a couple of request for a long time (5-48 
hours)
3.
   

Actual Results:  top shows increasing load average with no processes 
occupying cpu, all i/o with raid is locked, samba fails to serve 
requests

Expected Results:  adequate load average, working samba

Try the errata kernel. If that doesn't help, you're out of luck
I'm afraid, as Red Hat Linux 9 reached End of life at the end of April
2004.
