I believe that's because default PolicyKit distro policy allows that only for "local" sessions, and vnc is not considered local. Fair enough, but then the policy should be to reject these requests rather than try to annoy the user to death. Not Fedora specific, so reported upstream: https://github.com/hughsie/PackageKit/issues/69 Apparently the policy used to be to reject these requests, but it got changed. This message is a reminder that Fedora 23 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 23. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '23'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Created attachment 1044687 [details] screen shot of authentication dialog Logging in over a remote system like VNC pops up an authentication dialog with "Authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading software". It seems like PackageKit's policy is not properly tuned for remote sessions.
