Hi Richard, I am not sure if I understand you. Probably you didn't use "-r" option, right? # zip -r home_backup.zip /home nope used it. And used -R. No such luck.Name still not matched for files in folder name given.Problem is exacerbated by the UI as of late. Even when /home is owned by user(temporarily) Im getting errors and access denied messages zipping my own home folder.Looks like Im off to the the Debian live cd for now to zip from the command line.Debian UI corrupts data on zip. Ok, now I see where is problem. when you try use command like: $ zip backup.zip -R "folder/*" it will compress only files directly in directory "folder". So for these files: ./folder/sth/folder/file ./folder/sth/book ./folder/jezek these files will be matched with regexp: ./folder/sth/folder/ ./folder/sth/folder/file ./folder/ ./folder/jezek IOW, matching is processed against suffix always. Otherwise matching with pattern itself is like shell matching. So same behaviour for "sth/*" "sth/**/", etc. May manpages aren't actual or this is really bug. I am not sure now, but similar topic I saw in upstream forum earlier, but last upstream development version of zip has same behaviour. Unfortunately, forum is 1+ days unavailable. So resolution about this behaviour will be done later. You can use find & grep for now to get list of all files which you need backup. Its a weird bug. I know what needs backup. All of /home. But you just can zip from there, even as root. You must traverse into the user home folder first. Then you must ensure files like z: pointer dont point to anywhere you dont want to backup. Wine was preventing me from making a backup.Remove .wine and it goes smoothly.Hope you kept your installs handy... |
