Description Greg Blomquist 2015-07-09 15:53:17 UTC
Description of problem:

There is confusion in the field as to what OpenStack endpoints are required by CFME. And, we have seen a few customer cases where the "adminURL" endpoint of some services is set to a private network (192.168.x.x).

The Fog library (a rubygem used by CFME to connect to OpenStack) selects the adminURL endpoint for some of the OpenStack services when requesting some pieces of data. We have not identified all of the instances where this happens. But, it means that CFME requires that the "adminURL" endpoint for all OpenStack services be on a non-private network. The "adminURL" endpoint should be assigned an IP address of something other than 192.168.x.x and must be accessible to the CFME Appliance that is responsible for collecting inventory and gathering metrics from the OpenStack environment.

Assigning to Suyog for review.

Suyog - looks like we need to add a note to the sections in the Insight Guide on adding OpenStack providers that tells users about this limitation.

Assigning Shikha as the QA contact.

Shikha - could you take a look at the merge request above?
