Description rudolf 2015-07-31 17:50:30 UTC
Description of problem:

Qt4 apps running under gnome ignore font hinting style set by fontconfig.

Fontconfig in clean Desktop installation has default value set for hintstyle:

[user@localhost ~]$ fc-match "" hintstyle
:hintstyle=3

however Qt4 apps ignore this and not use hinting at all. Result is fuzzy and different looking fonts than gtk apps.

If i create /etc/fonts/local.conf with:

<match target="pattern">
  <edit name="hintstyle" mode="assign">
    <const>hintfull</const>
  </edit>
</match>

it sets hintstyle to :hintstyle=3 "again" and Qt4 picks this setup and starts using hinting.
