Description Pete Houston 2015-08-30 14:41:59 UTC
Description of problem:

Starting audacity from a shell prompt just returns the user to the prompt with no diagnostic messages at all. Exit code is 255. This happens even with "audacity -version" eg:

$ audacity -version
$ echo $?
255
$

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

audacity 2.1.1-1.fc22

How reproducible:

Always.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. sudo dnf install audacity
2. audacity

Actual results:

audacity fails to start - no errors/warnings/diagnostics. Exits with error code 255 and control returns to the shell.

Expected results:

audacity starts and shell waits for it to finish.

Additional info:

Audacity does not start when run from menus in the display manager either (Gnome, Enlightenment)

works fine if you run it with sudo

Comment 2 Brent R Brian 2015-08-30 19:46:39 UTC
also runs as user if you

rm -rf .audacity-data

Comment 3 David Timms 2015-08-30 22:05:45 UTC
Hi Brent, was this the first time you had installed Audacity on the machine ?

That is, is the .audacity-data folder what this version created, or from an earlier version, and if so what version ?

Comment 4 Pete Houston 2015-08-31 13:51:03 UTC
Thanks Brent for the tip. I confirm that removing the old ~/.audacity-data directory solves the problem for me.

According to the old audacity.cfg file the previous version was 1.3.13-beta.
