Description javiertury 2015-10-01 19:34:58 UTC
Description of problem
----------------------

When changing the brightness level on gnome-shell it has no effect on the screen backlight.

Gnome by default adjusts the value of "/sys/class/backlight/nv_backlight/brightness" when it should adjust the value of "/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness" as the intel card handles the output.

The default behaviour is understandable for desktops but it doesn't work for laptops.

Additional notes
----------------

* The system is an optimus laptop, it consists of 2 graphic cards where the intel one handles all the output.

* Only open source drivers, i915 and nouveau, are used.

* PRIME is used to switch cards, not bumblebee.

* While changing the brightness on gnome's slider or using the hotkeys the file "/sys/class/backlight/nv_backlight/brightness" changes too.

* xbacklight works fine, it changes intel_backlight only.

It's still broken in Fedora 24.
