Description Richard Jasmin 2015-10-14 01:48:04 UTC
Description of problem:
there is no drive locking of optical drives, as was the standard in the past.

This was two-fold:
1) it prevented drives in use from being opened
2) you had to sync data before disc removal on write

Although annoying to some, and in some instances it was very effective. And I dont see why manufacturers would drop support for the feature.

When using the live cd, the disc in use can be ejected at will. In some instances this causes compressed data not available issues, but not always. Drive should lock the media if we are standing on it.

This is mostly the reason the eject utility exists. Basically any mount is supposed to lock the drive until unmounted.

I encourage you to play with your linux. be suprised what bugs you find.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
RedHat X+ (before Fedora series)

How reproducible:
push the eject button. lets find out.
