Description Fredy Neeser 2015-10-16 15:41:53 UTC
Description of problem:
Now I cannot provide the exact steps that led to this problem. However, it likely happened while logging into KDE, in a dual-monitor configuration, where LVDS is driven by intel and the external monitor is driven by nouveau.

Recently xorg-x11-server-Xorg and/or KDE have a lot of trouble to figure out where to place the Primary Display. My KDE Display Configuration uses a composite (LVDS + ext. monitor) display, and the external monitor is always my primary display.

On first login after boot, what usually happens is that the KDE panel and widgets first appear on the LVDS, but then KDE figures out, that in fact the external monitor is running and the panel and widgets should rather be there. Quite often, this results in the external monitor ultimately showing the KDE panel, but no widgets. My current workaround is to logout/login again, which often fixes the issue.
